I’m still using that charcoal bundle and I used a gradient map on the fox (redrawn). This is fun. I love the willow sticks that are grainy and the blenders that are made like paper towels with patterns.

Charcoal brushes
So now I’ve downloaded the charcoal bundle in Krita Extras. Ohhh, they have tilt recognition. For a long time, I didn’t even know my tablet had tilt. So, these charcoal ‘brushes’ are shading when I tilt my pen and they’re skinny when my pen is upright. And they have wonderful grain. Nice blenders. I did… Continue reading Charcoal brushes
Snack
I made a complementary color still life. I arranged this on the dining table, with a tablecloth thrown over a briefcase. And the candlestick holder really isn’t that tall. 🙂I meant to focus on the RGBA brushes (oil), but I also used several others in Krita. It was enjoyable – doesn’t matter how many times… Continue reading Snack
Smart canvas
You can get 3 templates for Krita already set up with a good ‘paper’ or ‘canvas’ for oil, for watercolor and for pastel. Layers are already in place and adjusted for you! The download is https://files.kde.org/krita/extras/Smart%20Canvas%20Templates%20for%20Krita.zip and the explainer video is https://youtu.be/xpWmQ-OY36I. Just open those templates in Krita, go to menu File -> Create Template… Continue reading Smart canvas
Digital oil
So, I’m painting in a background with some wet oil paint brushes. They’re only for Krita 5. Only the dry oil RGBA brushes came already in Krita, I needed to download the ‘bundle’ of wet brushes, straight from the Krita developers. I love the greasy impasto oil texture of them. I restrained myself to trying… Continue reading Digital oil
Trav Travails
So, I did a grayscale portrait in Krita, and then started to do color over it. Well, I can advise, that your grayscale has got to be smooth. No streaks or splotches, unless you love the artsy look of exaggerated streaks and splotches. Now I’ll show you the screenshot of the work inside Krita, on… Continue reading Trav Travails
Digital practice iris
My hand-eye coordination is much better and I’m getting used to the program Krita. It does pay attention to painting, more so than Gimp. This is a big pic, for zooming in. You can see where I did details and where I didn’t and try to guess the brush presets (brushes that are preconfigured for… Continue reading Digital practice iris
Digital
I got a graphics tablet, first time ever. Ugee M708. I thought using the pen, I mean stylus, would be just like using an ordinary pen. But I got the tablet day before yesterday and yesterday, I drew this: The pen, I mean stylus, went everywhere. I even closed dockers in the program Krita without… Continue reading Digital
Nocturne practice
I’ve been painting a landscape some days, but they’ve been bad. I paint over them. This one was very fast and isn’t horrible. I smeared that bird in there really rapidly. The advantage to fast landscapes is that I don’t stress. It’s therapeutic time. And I can use the same canvas or board over and… Continue reading Nocturne practice
Copse practice
I was going to do a landscape in oil, a la Stuart Davies, but I got tired of waiting for my oil to dry on the old painting I covered. So today, I spent an hour and 20 minutes doing this one in acrylic, especially the Golden Open slow-drying: I did the copse of trees… Continue reading Copse practice
