I finished the small vase with tomatillo (7inches by 10inches), but if your monitor shows an incredibly brilliant scarlet background, it’s really tomato color. The towel is not as harsh, either. Everything really is bright and strong, but some monitors are showing a background that would start a fire alarm. I’m going to add to… Continue reading Vase with Tomatillo thoughts

Derwent L. Notes
I made myself some preliminary notes about the Derwent Lightfast pencils: For primaries, Deep Rose serves ok as a magenta, I think. (Made with quinacridone violet and titanium white.) The pencil Magenta is actually quinacridone magenta PR122. I’ll be adding that to my Dick Blick cart next time!Dark Turquoise seems ok as a primary cyan.… Continue reading Derwent L. Notes
Derwent Eye Try
I finally bought the set of 72 Derwent Lightfast colored pencils. Of course, because of the Derwent Eye, I had to try an eye. I’m drawing my own eye, which seems surprised because I’m straining to keep it open. I am really happy. It wasn’t possible to do much with the set of 12. Hopefully,… Continue reading Derwent Eye Try
Derwent Lightfast final result
Upper strip kept out from 25 July through 25 October. That’s hot summer sun in this hemisphere. There’s no difference in the test strips. That’s great to know, because these pencils aren’t cheap. (Ignore the violet in the bottom corner)

I thought I’d fill in the texture with watercolor washes, and did that on the first… Continue reading Got Derwent Lightfast
Dog painting
This is halfway through an egg tempera painting of my granddaughter’s dog. And yes, that red is an earth. Luberon red ochre and the green earth is Tavush. I can’t show the finished painting, because I coated it with gloss varnish, which overcomes my camera.
