This was meant as a practice piece on paper I had already done something on. The vase says “The Lover” Japan on the bottom. It’s a lovely vase, but I’ve simplified it.
I experimented with acrylic mixed into casein binder (homemade) and just acrylic in certain spots. And colored pencils.
My son thought the blue table was a globe. I didn’t put that much thought into it….like:
The blue table is the globe, humanity is the empty vessel, standing up among the sulphuric ruins. Maybe the v’s over the vessel are praying hands.
Or it’s just practice with acrylic.
BTW, after I bought that Blickrylic medium, I saw this plant-based acrylic medium: https://naturalearthpaint.com/natural-acrylic-medium-16-oz/
Whoa! I know if I use acrylic paint or medium, I’m just using some petroleum byproduct. Waste product.
The plants grown for the natural product were fertilized with nitrogen made from natural gas. The harvesters were powered by fossil fuel. The transport trucks used fossil fuel.
Would it be more than just a token gesture to buy that product?
But wouldn’t it be nice to support that effort?
I’m a caregiver. I have to be available at a moment’s notice.
I like making my own paint, but I need to pre-mix paint and paint later. My beloved casein and egg may need to wait. And my peach tree is not oozing much sap right now – that makes good watercolor gum binder. Oh. Oh!
I just ordered gum arabic. A bag of acacia tree sap.
Or should I use synthetic?
After all, somebody drilled holes in those trees and transported the sap in trucks using fossil fuel…..I really do think too much.
