Young drake

This is the young drake at 18 weeks. As an aside, his mother just finished her first egg-laying year and I recorded 346 eggs from her!!! So spectacular. I don’t consider this super finished, but I intend to paint that drake again soon.I started with fast-drying paint with matte medium and transitioned. The Golden Open has… Continue reading Young drake

Acrylic experiment

I’m experimenting with acrylics as a quick start-and-stop, water-based paint. The mixes of pigment and Blickrylic gel are staying wet in baby food jars. Yay! I got a starter set of Golden Open, traditional colors. And a jar of Open gel (it’s quite transparent). 2 tubes of Golden Heavy Body, just to see what they’re… Continue reading Acrylic experiment

3month Derwent Lightfast Test

Lightfastness test of Derwent Lightfast color pencils, 72 color set.Photo taken with indoor warm LED lighting, open curtains, cell phone camera. I had to adjust the photo in Gimp. While in Gimp, I added a note that the color changes on the left edge don’t really exist. It’s an artifact of the photo.3 months on… Continue reading 3month Derwent Lightfast Test

Plant or petroleum

This was meant as a practice piece on paper I had already done something on. The vase says “The Lover” Japan on the bottom. It’s a lovely vase, but I’ve simplified it.I experimented with acrylic mixed into casein binder (homemade) and just acrylic in certain spots. And colored pencils. My son thought the blue table was… Continue reading Plant or petroleum

Daylily

I tried to mix some tempera grassa, but I can never get the mayonnaise consistency.Knowing that I shouldn’t, I used that for a background to a planned colored pencil drawing. The paint stayed gooey.I got out an old starter set of water-mixable oils and painted my daylily and background. I just didn’t want to throw it… Continue reading Daylily

CP Goat

Source photo by Gábor B. from Pixabay So, I have now tried a cool color scheme. Of course, there are never going to be as many cool colors as warm colors. I’m not truly through with this, but my mind is numb from drawing a million strokes. I just want to sit back, look at… Continue reading CP Goat

Vase with Tomatillo thoughts

I finished the small vase with tomatillo (7inches by 10inches), but if your monitor shows an incredibly brilliant scarlet background, it’s really tomato color. The towel is not as harsh, either. Everything really is bright and strong, but some monitors are showing a background that would start a fire alarm. I’m going to add to… Continue reading Vase with Tomatillo thoughts

Derwent L. Notes

I made myself some preliminary notes about the Derwent Lightfast pencils: For primaries, Deep Rose serves ok as a magenta, I think. (Made with quinacridone violet and titanium white.) The pencil Magenta is actually quinacridone magenta PR122. I’ll be adding that to my Dick Blick cart next time!Dark Turquoise seems ok as a primary cyan.… Continue reading Derwent L. Notes

Derwent Eye Try

I finally bought the set of 72 Derwent Lightfast colored pencils. Of course, because of the Derwent Eye, I had to try an eye. I’m drawing my own eye, which seems surprised because I’m straining to keep it open. I am really happy. It wasn’t possible to do much with the set of 12. Hopefully,… Continue reading Derwent Eye Try

Derwent Lightfast final result

Upper strip kept out from 25 July through 25 October. That’s hot summer sun in this hemisphere. There’s no difference in the test strips. That’s great to know, because these pencils aren’t cheap. (Ignore the violet in the bottom corner)
