Study binge

I’ve been having a study binge. I haven’t had time to paint, because during my free time I’ve studied – for the umpteenth time por la enesima vez – Spanish again. If you know me, you know I’m a chronic Spanish quitter. I’ve always quit, mainly because I can’t hear other languages, even when I… Continue reading Study binge

Seeing shapes

I got the Digital Atelier pack of brushes and textures, and the brush DA Oil 17 Stains scraped all over suggested a landscape. So I’ve been playing with the pastels and others in that pack this morning to further define the landscape. It’s fun play. I could go back to that later. Yeah, I was… Continue reading Seeing shapes

Impressionist brushes

I’ve been trying out the watercolor brushes (can’t believe how bad I am) and the bundle of extra impressionistic brushes for Krita.I….I really don’t know how to USE them well. I’m trying! And trying. CC0 public domain reference photo at https://www.publicdomainpictures.net/en/view-image.php?image=40369&picture=7 Here is the impressionism video from Krita: https://youtu.be/_BuZ4-Gu_Kc with the link to download the… Continue reading Impressionist brushes

Out of stock

If you are low on paint, maybe you should get some now. I keep seeing “Out Of Stock”, and they expect more in January (like Winsor & Newton Professional acrylic alizarin crimson hue). January is several months from now! So I broke every semblance of a budget and got some more items, including LARGE sizes.I… Continue reading Out of stock

Overworked

Update: I worked on it a little more. I gave up on this drawing/painting. It’s been a disaster from the start. First, I made the mistake of looking at a video of a painter using thick egg tempera. So I mixed thick egg tempera, a.k.a. goo. I applied it as a start to her face….then… Continue reading Overworked

Negative spaces

This is what I’m working on. I noticed the nicest triangles, rectangles, and even a trapezoid while I was looking at my rain garden. (It absorbs rainwater runoff from the road.) I painted the background with egg tempera, using yolk from a duck. I used it like a watercolor wash and left the brushstrokes The… Continue reading Negative spaces

12-week ducklings and new chicks

This post is image-heavy. The Campbell ducklings are now 12 weeks old. They’ve got company. Someone is moving and had to rehome 5 chicks. 3 Barred Rock and apparently, 2 Sicilian Buttercup! Here’s a closeup of one buttercup, and under that pic, a look at the unusual double helping of a single comb?

Ducks10and11

Here are the remaning ducklings at 10 weeks. I butchered one of the excess drakelets and I’m still sad about it, so the other 2 extra drakes are still here. And in the picture below that one, there are changes to the pen. In this pic, the duckling are 11 weeks. The ground was staying… Continue reading Ducks10and11

New Pigments

I’m not happy with my lighfastness tests for colored pencils, so I bought a few more pigments to paint with. And dug up some orange clay! I ground the orange clay for a long time and also mulled it. I suppose I might need to levigate it carefully, to get out any sand. The reds… Continue reading New Pigments
